Announced today at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Roush-Fenway revealed that Fifth Third Bank will be a sponsor on a limited schedule on the No.17 Ford driven by Matt Kenseth this season. You can expect to see the paint scheme at the following races; this Saturday night for the All-Star Race, June 30th at Kentucky, July 29th at Indianapolis and August 19th at the Michigan International Speedway.
Rumors spread last week that Kenseth was also expected to have a car number change to accommodate the new sponsor. The number on the side of Kenseth’s car will continue to be No.17. Kenseth commented on the relationship between him and the No.17; “It’s just a number, but obviously 17 has been on our car since I started the Busch (Currently Nationwide) Series in 1997.” Kenseth also said “I would hate to change it, although it would be cool to get it approved for the All-Star Race.” A possible number to go along with his new sponsor Fifth Third Bank would be the No.53.
If Kenseth was to change his number, it would not be too appreciated by his fans. With all their No.17 gear no one would want to buy new merchandise with his new number. Kenseth will look to win his second All-Star Race this Saturday Night at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Daytona 500 Champions have fared well in the All-Star race, Jimmie Johnson won the 2006 Daytona 500 and then went on to win the All-Star race later that season. Watch for the No.17 Fifth Third Bank Ford to be fast come this Saturday Night.
