ABC’s hit reality TV show; The Bachelorette has NASCAR ties in this season with Bachelorette Emily Maynard. Maynard was on Brad Womack’s season of The Bachelor and she was eventually engaged to Womack before breaking off the engagement a year later. Maynard, 26, is now the bachelorette this season.

For the first time in show history they are filming the show outside of California. They’re filming it in the heartland of NASCAR in Charlotte, North Carolina. The crew decided to film in Charlotte to accommodate Maynard who has a six-year old daughter Ricki. In last week’s season premiere my NASCAR twitter followers were discussing Maynard due to her NASCAR ties. Maynard was engaged to Rick Hendrick’s son Ricky Hendrick. Ricky was involved in the fateful Hendrick plane crash in October of 2004. Before the plane crash, Ricky Hendrick was a racecar driver and partial owner of Hendrick Motorsports.  Maynard was engaged to Hendrick at the time.

Maynard wasn’t feeling well that weekend and decided not to travel to Martinsville. The Friday following the plane crash, Maynard found out she was pregnant with Ricky Hendrick’s daughter, Ricki. Maynard still follows NASCAR and still lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. Rick Hendrick is the grandfather of six-year-old Ricki.

Maynard said to contestant Aria, who is an Indy Car driver, that NASCAR is the only sport she follows. Rick Hendrick has mentioned granddaughter Ricki from time-to-time during interviews. This season of The Bachelorette will have many NASCAR fans watching and highly interested in the show. In Brad Womack’s season of The Bachelor they had a group date at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. They all took part in the Richard Petty Driving Experience. The Bachelorette should draw more and more NASCAR fans into the show this season. The show airs on ABC at eight o’clock next Monday Night.
