Denny Hamlin announced prior to Saturday Night’s Quaker State 400 at Kentucky that he has signed a multi-year agreement to race at Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR). This takes Hamlin off the free-agent block for the 2013 season. Hamlin first announced it via twitter. Below is Hamlin’s tweet.
@dennyhamlin- “IT’S OFFICIAL. I’ve signed an extension with @JoeGibbsRacing. Happy to know where my future is. Excited for tonight and beyond with my team.”
This has been Hamlin’s only team since he started racing in the Sprint Cup Series back in 2006. Hamlin has accounted for 19 wins in his cup career. Hamlin was so close to winning the 2010 Championship but came up short. Throughout the next few seasons with JGR, Hamlin should be a serious contender for the championship. After this announcement, that sets a lock for two of JGR’s cars for 2013. Kyle Busch and Hamlin will be in Toyota’s for JGR next season. Logano is expected to re-sign as well. Matt Kenseth is possibly coming to JGR next season but has not confirmed or denied that. Hamlin should be able to relax and go win races after getting the contract set for the next few seasons.
