Stewart-Hass Racing (SHR) announced today that they have re-signed Ryan Newman. The deal is only one year in length due to sponsorship issues. Newman doesn’t have a primary sponsor for 2013 yet. Newman’s primary sponsor for this year, U.S Army, announced that they will not return to the No.39 car in 2013. Newman still has some sponsors that are one-two race deals that he’ll use next season like Outback Steakhouse, Aspen Dental, Tornadoes, Quicken Loans and HASS. Not all these sponsors have been confirmed as sponsors for Newman in 2013.
Newman has been on SHR since they opened operations in 2009. Newman has won four races with the team. Newman has made the Chase in 2009 and 2011 with the team. After the 2013 season Newman and Stewart will work on a long term deal but for now Newman’s future past 2013 is uncertain.
Newman is still eligible for the Chase this weekend in Richmond if he can win Saturday night in Richmond. If Newman were to win this weekend in Richmond, it would be his second win of the season. Newman won at Martinsville back in April after a late turn of events with Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon getting involved in a wreck on a late restart.
Newman will be looking for his second career win at Richmond this weekend and he will be looking for the second wild card spot.
