Race Day Preview: The Daytona 500

The “Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing” has finally arrived after months of preparation. Every single team put it in countless hours of work to give their driver the best shot at taking home the Daytona 500 trophy. All of the teams’ hard work will be put on show for the world to see this afternoon in the 55th running of the Daytona 500.

Fans will come from all over the country and world to see the spectacle the Daytona 500 is. This race is a once in-a-lifetime event that always lives up to the hype and this season with the Gen 6 cars, this race will be more amazing than ever. This is definitely the most anticipated Daytona 500 ever because there will be so many new things occurring and all of NASCAR is excited to see how their off-season investments pay-off. Get ready folks because the Daytona 500 is here.

Race Info Needed for Fans

Start Time (Estimated) – 1:20 PM EST

Race Length- 200 Laps, 500 Miles

Race Day Weather- Scattered Thunder Storms, High- 74 F, Low-61 F and Chance of rain- 60%

Additional Weather Notes: Even with the threat of showers, many people believe we will get the race in and with the new Air Titan, if we were to have a delay, the delay wouldn’t last more than an hour. The chance of rain is expected to be at its highest at 2 PM EST but, after that, the chance of rain goes down for the rest of the night.

Interesting Notes- The racing with the Gen 6 car will be interesting and it is unpredictable. This will be the first true-test of the Gen 6 car. The rain could play a factor in the race and it will be interesting to see how the rain affects the race. The drivers could be cautious during the whole race because of the wreck yesterday and the drivers not wanting to have a replay of that wreck.

Drivers to look for: Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Practice/Qualifying Notes: Danica Patrick became the first woman to win a pole in the Sprint Cup Series. She is also the first woman to win the Daytona 500 pole. Carl Edwards, Trevor Bayne and Regan Smith will all be in back-up cars due to a wreck they were involved in during the Budweiser Duel.

The day that NASCAR has been waiting for since November has finally arrived and in just hours, the green flag will wave for the Daytona 500. Every driver who will take the green flag today has hopes of making history and winning the biggest race in NASCAR. 42 drivers have those hopes but, only one driver will have their hopes and dreams come true. The race will surely be wild and exciting today but, by the end of the day, we will crown a Daytona 500 champion and as of now, anyone could be that champion. Race day is here and the green flag will be waved soon to start the 2013 Cup Series season.
