Driver Jason Leffler Killed in Sprint Car Accident

During a heat race at the Bridgeport Speedway in New Jersey Wednesday Night, Jason Leffler was involved in a sprint car accident that took his life. New Jersey State Police confirmed it late last night that Leffler was pronounced dead at 9:02 PM EST. Leffler had most recently competed in the Sprint Cup Series Race at Pocono last weekend driving the No.19 car.

Leffler had competed in the Nationwide Series for many seasons. Two Nationwide wins are credited to his name when he won at the Nashville Speedway in 2004 and Lucas Oil Raceway in Indiana during the 2007 season.

After exiting the full-time NASCAR world following the 2011 season, Leffler had returned to his second racing passion of sprint car racing. Besides competing in sprint cars, he also competed in the Truck Series during the 2012 season. He started 2012 out by driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Truck Series, but he was released from the ride in August. He then went on to compete in off and on races in NASCAR’s top series’ for the remainder of the season and he had been driving a select number of Cup races in the No.19 car this season.

The whole racing world came together last night following the news and one of Leffler’s nicknames of “LefTurn” was created into a hashtag to commemorate Leffler. Many people in the racing community only had good things to say about Leffler and everyone knew his as a great person.

Jason will be truly missed by everyone in the racing world and thoughts and prayers should go out to the whole Leffler family during this difficult time.
