Five Predictions for Bristol

Food City 500

Short track racing at its finest will be present this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. Thunder Valley often produces exciting bumper-to-bumper racing and it is sure to again this time around.

The winning combination at Bristol includes being patiently aggressive. All teams will search for that combination this weekend. Whichever one can find it the quickest will experience the most success. Figuring out which team that may be inspired this week’s five predictions.

Team Penske has nearly had a clean-sweep of qualifying this season. Taking back-to-back Sprint Cup Series front rows at Phoenix and Las Vegas is an impressive feat. It will surely have teams gunning after them more than ever this weekend.

Teams now have two weeks of experience with the new procedure, so the time is now for someone other than Penske to take the front row. Don’t expect a third straight Team Penske front row as there will be different drivers leading the field to green on Sunday.

A year ago, Kyle Larson had a breakthrough performance in the Nationwide Series race at Bristol. Finishing a close second to Bristol-master Kyle Busch showcased the talent many say Larson has.

Bristol is one of Larson’s best tracks and two top five finishes in NNS races last season showed that. Larson may not be a major threat this Sunday, but look for him to come very close to winning the race he almost did last season on Saturday afternoon.

Three weeks into the 2014 Sprint Cup Series season and the talk about winning continues. Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski have all essentially punched their tickets for the Chase with their victories.

Under the new Chase system, the chance to win multiple races has diminished. With drivers wanting to win more than ever, a greater amount of regular season victors could emerge. With that in mind, expect a fourth different winner to triumph in Thunder Valley this weekend.
