Two Words – Daytona Bound

NSCS_Budweiser_Duel1_022014The most exciting week in NASCAR is right around the corner as SpeedWeeks approaches. To begin every season, Daytona International Speedway offers a thrilling kick-off to the new racing year with seven races across all three national series, and the ARCA Racing Series.

Each February, fans flock to the legendary “World Center of Racing” to witness the spectacle of racing at Daytona, and thousands will do so again in a couple of weeks. This upcoming events are extra special as 40,000 new seats will be available as part of the Daytona Rising project.

Can you guess who will be sitting in one of the brand new seats? That’s right – I’m Daytona bound.

While I won’t be at the track every day, I will be there for two days of racing, including the DAYTONA 500. It was a dream come true to attend the 51st running of this legendary event back in 2009, and it will be even more special to be present for the 57th edition this year.

What makes this trip even more special is that my mom knew I was going. In her final hours, I scrambled to cancel a trip scheduled for early in the New Year, and hinted that I would love to reschedule it for DAYTONA 500 week.

Of course, she gave me her legendary eye-roll that would always come when I mention big racing plans. However, its going to be incredibly cool walking up to the speedway, knowing my mom knew I would be doing this.

It has been such a hectic month as today marks one month since her passing, but I’m carrying on just like she asked me to. Going to Daytona will provide time for some much needed R&R as I am able to escape the -13 degree New York weather (the forecasted low for tomorrow night!) and trade it in for some palm trees.

This is my first trip to speedway since becoming socially active on twitter, so if anyone will be there, please reach out and I would love to say hi. Its going to be a really fun time, and I look forward to sharing lots of photos on my social media pages.

See you in Daytona!
